Assignments
Assignment 1: Pepsi ad
Now that you're a pro with Illustrator, you'll be using it to recreate some ads. The Pepsi ad is a great little warm up. All the pieces you'll need to accurately recreate these suckers (this and assignment 2) can be found here.
Assignment 2: Compass ad
Just like assignment 1, but a bit harder and more time consuming. Aren't I nice?
Assignment 3: Gimme a "10"
Need I say more? Well, yes, but not until Assignment 1+2 are done. Patience.
Assignment 4: Logo Usage Guide
Using the provided vector logo, create a logo usage guide that you feel best fits the needs of the organization. If you feel there need to be variations created for this logo (i.e.: color, layout), feel free; however, you must fully document these decisions and their best usage in your guide.1
This guide should be a minimum of eight pages (use layers for now — we'll discuss how to get an eight page PDF out of this in class). Your document should be well designed and cover both best use as well as provide examples of what not to do with this identity.
Be sure to look at as many examples (here, here, here, keep looking) as you can find, but you should also make this document a) fit the need of the organization (as you see it), and b) original and visually interesting.
1 This doesn't mean you're allowed to redesign the primary logo.
Assignment 5: Color infographic
Along the lines of this, you will create a new infographic. The topic? You pick. The content? You create it. My suggestions would be: get to know what an infographic is and what purpose it serves. Then pick a topic you have some interest — if not knowledge — in. You may find it useful to start with some scratch paper and a pencil to comp out some plausible ideas before getting to work on the computer and fleshing out the details.
Assignment 6 (the final): Vector Art
Create a vector-based art piece using no less that three (3) separate photographs or primary elements. One of the central themes in your collage must be a person (see examples here).
This is much like assignment 2, except you are now in charge of putting this piece of art together in a visually pleasing and interesting way (as opposed to just recreating someone else's work). To be successful, you should incorporate the creative process to its fullest and be prepared to defend your final piece via that process.
At a minimum, I would expect a write up of your objectives/goals for your piece, as well as the original raster-based works from which your piece evolved.
Schedule to complete the final
- Final Part 1: One of the three elements should be done and submitted to the server with its source materials by April 16th @ 10:00 pm.
