Personas suck. Or they don’t.

November 15th, 2007 by J

Some good point counterpoint between Jason Fried of 37 Signals and Andy Budd of clear:left. Jason argues that creating personas for development of products or concepts is bad. Andy has other opinions.

In case you’re wondering, this has root back in what we did for assignment 2. And, I might add, direct relationship to the creative process.

So give both sides a read. What think ye?

Illustrator woes

October 5th, 2007 by J

Curtis, who is far smarter than I’ll ever be, has posted revised notes on how to get Illustrator to behave. If the idea of “remote login” is foriegn to you, just hit the lab assistants up and they’ll be happy to help.

scale? I don’t like reptiles.

Just add this to the “J doesn’t make this crap up” file:

Illustrator 101: To Scale or Not to Scale? Strokes, That Is.

You might, someday when you have time, want to peruse the archives of this site as you’ll find all sorts of handy info in here. You could even (gasp!) add this site to your feed reader. Crazy talk, I know.

Create an idea bank with del.icio.us

September 21st, 2007 by J

As we talked about last night, keeping an idea bank or collection is a handy means of brainstorming. For materials that are online, del.icio.us can serve this purpose. An account is free and the stuff you bookmark is available on any online computer that you come across. To see how I’ve (perhaps ineffectually) put it to use, see my page here:

Just a suggestion; not an assignment. Oh, and I think ma.gnolia.com does the same thing. But prettier.

Fix the Leopard Folders

September 11th, 2007 by J

Ah, user interface and design: how they go hand in hand. Give Brandon Walkin’s article a read and digest. How will these ideas factor into this class?

And what’s that extra “f” for in the title? :)
